A day in the life: Lead Paralegal - Barbora Kozusnikova

Barbora has worked at LexisNexis for over 3 years, and is responsible for one of the paralegal clusters in our PSL Hub. Barbora manages six paralegals who work with Energy, Environment, Information Law, Intellectual Property, Life Sciences, Property, Scotland and Technology, Media and Telecoms.

Barbora starts her day…

As late as possible!! She loves being able to work from home and being able to snooze her alarm, and she’s still never late for work!

Barbora got her job…

Over three years ago, however, but her role has changed considerably through the years. Barbora initially joined as a paralegal within a team focusing on assisting the Commercial & Sectors teams with their content work. About a year later, the team then took on content tasks for more and more Practice Areas which expanded Barbora’s role even further.

In January 2021, Barbora got the opportunity to start a six month secondment as a senior paralegal with four direct reports, and by June 2021, she became a lead paralegal in the newly formed PSL Hub. Over the last three years, Barbora has seen the team grow from six paralegals to over 40, take on new responsibilities, pull together incredibly well during difficult times to produce amazing work, and help develop new processes and platforms that make their work much more efficient.

Barbora’s typical day...

…starts with looking through emails and a handwritten to do list, seeing what meetings are in the calendar for the day and checking the rota to see which content requests or current awareness pieces need her attention.

Writing Current Awareness pieces means the day is quite fast paced, making sure the most important developments for the Practice Areas are covered and ready to land in customers’ inboxes the next morning. Working on content allows Barbora to get stuck into reviewing, updating, editing and sometimes drafting Practice Notes, Precedents, trackers and Q&As.

A lot of her day also spent on monitoring our various inboxes to keep on top of requests and correspondence with other teams, external authors and customers, attending meetings with PSL’s to check in and find out how the paralegals can help, and delegating work to her team.

After work...

Barbora usually goes for a walk while listening to a true crime podcast, do some yoga or read a book from her forever growing pile.
