A Day in the Life of an HR Specialist

A Day in the Life of an HR Specialist

Hey, there! Ever wonder what a HR Specialist does all day? To some, it’s an area filled with mystery, while others just seem to believe we sit around on our phones all day. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! Let's jump in the exciting world of HR and see what a typical day looks like for someone on the job!

?

8:00 AM - Arriving at the Office

My day starts off when I arrive at the office at around 8:00 AM. First things first – coffee! Having my favorite beverage in hand, I walk to my desk and dive into my emails. You’d be amazed at the number of messages that accumulate outside of working hours!

?

8:30 AM - Planning the Day

I take a scroll through my calendar to see what’s in my tasks. Meetings, interviews and training sessions keep me on my toes. I jot down a to-do list, which helps me see the bigger picture of the day ahead, prioritize my tasks and keep them neat and tidy.

9:00 AM - Meeting with a New Employee

One of the best parts of my job is welcoming new employees. Today, I get to meet a new Manual QA specialist who’s just joined our team. If you’re like me and sometimes put a Hiring Manager’s hat on, you’d get to help the new hire go over forms, company policies, and answer their questions. I love seeing the excitement and a bit of nervousness in their eyes. It reminds me of my first day!

10:00 AM - Solving Problems

My phone rings - it’s an employee who’s having a concern about her work schedule. She needs to adjust her hours to take care of her kids. So I look at her request and work with her manager to find the best solution that works for everyone. I feel great knowing I can help make our workplace a happier environment.

12:00 PM - Lunch Break

After a busy morning, having lunch replenishes my creative energy! I usually eat with a few colleagues, catching up on life outside work. Sometimes, a little fresh air and a short walk around the block can do wonders for my energy levels.

1:00 PM - Interviewing Job Candidates

After lunch, it’s back to work with a job interview. Today, I’ll be ringing candidates for a new software developer position. As an HR this is something I’m not obligated to do, but I love it and make sure not to lose touch with my Talent Acquisition side. It’s like being a detective, figuring out who has the right skills and personality for our team. I ask questions to get a sense of their experience and see if they’ll fit in with our company culture.

2:30 PM - Training Session

Next up, I’m leading a training session on “Time Management.” It’s fun to share tips and tricks that help everyone work more efficiently. Seeing my coworkers’ eyes light up when they learn something new is incredibly rewarding.

4:00 PM - Reviewing Documents

As the day winds down, I may help out the TA team review job applications. Scanning through resumes and cover letters feels like searching for hidden gems. When I find a standout candidate, it’s like striking gold! And you recognize it the second it happens.

Other than that, sometimes there are company policies to go over, or onboarding presentations to provide feedback for.

5:00 PM - End of the Day

I wrap up my tasks, checking off everything on my to-do list. It’s satisfying to see how much I’ve accomplished. I pack up my things, say goodbye to my colleagues, and head home, feeling proud of the day’s work.

Why HR is Important? Let me tell you!

Being an HR specialist is more than just a job – it’s about making a positive impact on people’s lives. We help seek out new employees, solve problems, and ensure everyone feels valued and happy at work. It’s a role that requires great communication, patience, and a lot of empathy.

It’s a job full of variety, challenges, and opportunities to make a difference. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll find yourself in this rewarding role too! If you’re even considering it right now, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!
