Hi Gemma, so first-up, do please tell us what a typical day looks like for you?
“My role is very varied so I don’t really have a typical day. I work across most of our technical products, meaning I undertake file and compliance reviews, edit one of our technical manuals, lecture on training courses and answer technical queries. If I was to try and narrow it down, a “typical day” might be a visit to a client to conduct a review or run a course, doing file reviews, answering technical queries or editing a manual from home.”
What is an essential ingredient to making your workday feel rewarding or accomplished?
“I would say it is getting feedback from clients, where I have helped them understand a difficult technical area or given them a few things to help them improve audit quality or work more efficiently.”
What excites you most about your work?
“The variety and working in a fantastic team that has a wealth of knowledge and is supportive.”

Are certain qualifications necessary for your role?
“An accountancy qualification such as ACA or ACCA is necessary, along with accountancy practice experience in accounts and/or audit.”
Have you learned anything since starting your role at Wilmington/Mercia Group?
“Loads! Prior to joining Mercia I worked in practice and specialised in a niche sector. In the time I have been with Mercia, I have broadened my knowledge and understanding of other areas.”
