A Day in the Life - Eve Bailey, Our Photo Studio Intern
What is your life as Photo Studio Intern like? What do you do on a daily basis as part of your role?
Life as a Photo Studio Intern at MATCHESFASHION has been extremely insightful over the last 8 months. Being one of the only departments remaining fully operational in the business with the team still coming into the studio, this meant our roles had to be adaptable to the changing working environment due to Covid-19.
My day to day has changed so much, which has kept it exciting and allowed me to experience so many different departments. From assisting stylists on set with whatever they need and prepping for shoots which involves steaming items and locating product, making sure everything is organised for the shoots the following day. I have also been able to have time in the photography and stills department, where I was able to shoot product imagery used online. I’ve further assisted the production team, learning how to code product and assisting with sample organisation.
I find there is so much opportunity to learn as a Photo Studio Intern. I have been undertaking different tasks, such as creating deep-dives and mood boards into trends and new brands incoming into the studio and doing presentations to the department. I recently completed a colour trend presentation to the team, as this was an area I developed an interest in over the last year. I’ve also started styling training, learning about the different MATCHESFASHION customers, how they dress, the brands they buy and which brands are paired with what. I’ve had great opportunities to style incoming product which has also been featured online.
What’s been your top learning so far?
My top learning so far has to be my development of brand awareness. This was something that, coming into this internship, I knew I wanted to develop. But now, having encountered so many brands I never knew of previously, I understand their target customers, their styling preferences and brand pairings. This is a skill I can take with me and knowledge I will have forever.
What advice would you give to someone wishing to be an Intern in your department?
My top advice is to use your initiative within the studio. There are always things to be done or someone to assist. If there is something you are passionate about or having an interest in, its’ always great to discuss with your line manager and propose projects for you to do around them, which you can share with the team. Lastly, I believe it’s important to embrace the fast-paced environment that the studio works in, I feel this allows you to get the most out of your time here!
