Day in the Life of an Engineer: Suneeta Korlakunta

As an Engineer in the Data analytics reporting team (DART), I particularly work on the reporting needs at JCPenney. My team uses the data from our Data warehouse and builds reports for our leadership, enterprise-wise users, and our partner teams. My typical day begins with a quick standup meeting with my team, where I share the progress of all my projects. We discuss any roadblocks, technical bugs, or dependencies on others and either reach out for help or offer help to others, as needed.

I also meet with the Business Analysts from Plano to clarify their requirements on site. The requirements range from daily sales reports to annual company performance reports, based on the Stakeholders’ needs. Once the developers build the reports, I test them to check for any bugs or issues. I dig out the root cause of the issue and communicate the same to the developers. This saves them a whole lot of time while fixing those bugs.

I started my career at JCP with being a BI tester, which was my primary role. With time, I underwent an intense training session on the new BI tool – MicroStrategy. And I’m proud to say that I now work as a MicroStrategy developer and can build complex logics for metrics in the tool. This opportunity to move from being just a tester to an app developer was such a huge blessing for me! Glad that my core responsibility now is to develop multiple business-related reports, and then testing them too.

MicroStrategy is such an effective tool in terms of cost and performance while building reports - and adding that experience to my kitty is one great advantage. This is exactly what I love here - that I get to learn and explore new technologies and new systems – day in, day out!

It’s been over five years at JCPenney, and my journey so far has been a truly enriching experience. My teammates are always cheering me from the sides and what more would one need to put in their best efforts at work!
