A Day in the Life of a Contract Caterer

Saffron offers Contract Catering to those businesses who require a bespoke and unique service for their businesses catering needs.  We sat down with a member of our Contract Catering team, who prepares and serves food and drink to hundreds of staff at our Nottingham based clients to provide an insight into the life of a contract caterer.

Our team start their day bright and early at 7am every day.  Arriving fresh at this time throughout the winter can be a challenge which I am sure most can relate to, with dark gloomy mornings proving a challenge for the majority, but the team are never without smiles on their faces!

By now the team is in full flow creating delicious and tasty dishes for lunch, the ovens are cooking freshly baked baguettes, soups, jacket potatoes amongst other items.

In addition to our onsite deli this client often enjoy a range of our corporate buffets for their team meetings or training days, usually on a daily basis.  This presents an additional challenge to our kitchen team ensuring their van is loaded promptly with the deli stock and corporate lunches and is offsite in plenty of time to avoid the potential rush hour traffic.

Service starts at Nottingham. With our team serving customers on a daily basis we get to know them adding a personal touch to the service which is extremely well received by the client.  The deli sees many of the workers popping to the counter early to pre-order their lunch time meals, often grabbing a coffee and some fruit to boost energy levels during the all too familiar mid-morning energy dip.

With our experience of working with multinational companies and managing staff canteens our team ensure punctuality so after a morning of creating a wide verity of dishes our ovens, fridges and staff are ready to go in plenty of time for the early starters to come for their lunch.

The team are now in full flow with a consistent stream of employees purchasing their food to eat at the dining space or to take back to their desks and offices. This trend continues through until 14.00 with our staff creating ideal lunch and snack options to keep people content throughout the remainder of their day.

The team have now closed up, and have started to clean down, ensuring the premises is left pristine allowing staff to continue their day uninterrupted and safe in the knowledge that a full variety of food and drinks will be back available when required the following day.

Each day starts with preparation and plenty of planning ahead, and the end of the day sees the prep started for the next day. We ensure we have communicated with our suppliers to guarantee we have the required ingredients the following morning.  In addition, Saffron also hold regular meetings with our teams to ensure standards are met and performance goes over and above what is expected, including holding internal audit reviews on site.
