A day in the life of an Australia Post Grad: Meet Sarah Kasner
Ever wondered what a day in the life of an Australia Post Grad looks like? Wonder no more.?
Meet Sarah Kasner. Sarah joined Australia Post just over a year ago as a Graduate on our Customer & Commercial team in Strategy Planning and Governance. Her team supports the Sales functions in exceeding expectations of their customers.?
In particular, Sarah has been assisting with the management of the Customer Obsession Project, a key work stream that seeks to bring the customer perspective into everything we do at Australia Post.?
Sarah’s varied role sees her working closely with her immediate team, other Australia Post Grads and across different business departments. No two days are the same, but here’s a taste of what she might get up to on a typical day in her #AusPostLife .?
--
7:00 am??
I get out of bed, throw my gym gear on and go for a quick jog to wake me up, before getting ready for the day ahead.??
8:45 am?
The most important part of my day! This is when I get my morning coffee. I can’t jump into a Teams meeting until I’ve had my first coffee of the day! Next to me is my friend Zeneca, who is a Grad from the Digital and Data Services Team.?
9:00 am?
First, I check my Outlook Calendar to see what I have on for the day and check my emails.?
Time for business. I start my workday by responding to emails. Currently, I’m working closely with the Risk and Governance Manager in my team, so I message him to check whether anything needs to be immediately actioned or followed up from the Customer and Commercial Action Register.??
I then have a stand-up meeting with a stream lead in the Customer Obsession Project to check that we are on track with organising the Festival of the Customer, just one of the initiatives of our multi-year program focused on building our customer culture. Here, I’ll find out if there are any actions that we need to take to support the execution of the Festival.?
?10:00 am?
As part of managing the Customer and Commercial Action Register, I have a meeting with the Executive Manager to review a piece of collateral from the Customer Advisory Group and discuss actions to be added to the register.??

11:00 am??
I attend an Alcohol Deliveries Regulatory meeting where different stakeholders from the business, including those from the Product, Operations, Regulatory Affairs and Legal team, meet to monitor our legal compliance regarding the transport of alcohol. Every state and territory is governed by their own Act and Regulations and often update them, so it’s important to stay updated.?
1:00 pm?
I join a pre-sales workshop brainstorming session where we use the digital collaboration tool, Miro, to visually map out the pre-sales pain points, and then identify ways of rectifying these shortcomings.?
2:30 pm?
Some days, there are site visits organised. Today, the grads went on a site visit to the Melbourne Parcel Facility and Sunshine West Facility. These sorts of excursions provide us with a more holistic understanding of the business, by providing an insight into the operations side of supply chain and what happens on the frontline, which is the core of the business.???
The Sunshine West facility is one of the newest facilities, which was built to support the enormous increase of parcel delivery volume experienced by Australia Post and the wider transport industry in Australia. It was really impressive to see how the new facility integrated the latest European automated sorting technology with the existing live facility and services!?
Team dinner?
Here’s some of our Strategy Planning & Governance team out at dinner. We have a really supportive and diverse group of people from different disciplines, such as Finance, Risk, Consulting, Capability and Tenders & Bids, to name a few, who bring their insights to the team and always have time to help one and other. I felt welcome the moment I stepped foot in Australia Post, particularly in this team.?
Grads at work and outside of work
Here’s a photo of me with some more of our Grads participating in Hack Day and hanging out together outside of our work day, which we love.??
