A DAY OF IMPACT
As participants from across the globe tuned in, uplifting music filled the virtual space. This harmonious beginning set the tone for the enlightening discussions that were about to unfold.
Welcoming Remarks: Embodying the Spirit of Mandela
As a member of the organizing team, I had the privilege of welcoming everyone to the virtual event, which was supported by the House of Mandela and its family foundation led by Dr. Makaziwe Mandela. Setting the stage with the spirit of Mandela Day and its relevance in today's world, I introduced my esteemed colleague, Karimah Dillard, Director of Policy for the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Spotlight on Domestic Violence: Karimah Dillard’s Keynote
Karimah took the digital stage, guiding us through a comprehensive presentation on domestic violence. She shed light on non-carceral solutions and introduced the panelists from the Justice for Incarcerated Survivors program.
A Survivor's Perspective: Katrina Butler’s Story
One of the most poignant moments of the day came when Katrina, a justice-impacted survivor, shared her personal experience with domestic violence. Her candid discussion underscored the crucial need for addressing this issue, particularly among young men and boys.
Justice for Incarcerated Survivors Program: Selena Faith's Insight
Selena offered an insightful look into the Justice for Incarcerated Survivors Program. She highlighted the invaluable role of volunteers in supporting their work and the profound impact they can have on survivors' lives.
Men Stopping Violence: Mark Bracey's Invitation to Men and Boys
Mark, representing Men Stopping Violence, shared about their initiatives and invited participants to get involved. His words served as a stark reminder of our collective responsibility to combat domestic violence.
A Powerful Conclusion: A Call to Action
We concluded the event with heartfelt thanks to all participants and speakers. Karimah and I expressed our deep gratitude and ended with a powerful call to action to end violence against women and girls in our communities.
As we reflect on this momentous day, let's remember Nelson Mandela's unwavering commitment to social justice, reconciliation, and human rights. Let's continue the conversation, take tangible steps towards ending domestic violence, and transform our world, one community at a time.

1 å¹´I had an opportunity to listen in on the 18th. It was very insightful and inspiring. It was also a pleasant surprise to see Karimah Dillard, as she and I co-presented for NRCDV about a year and a half ago.
