Day I - thinc! goes Berlin

Berlin — being not only a magnificent city with a stunning history but also THE Start-Up hub of Germany it is a paradise for everyone in the thinc family. Consequently more than 60 members of thinc’s family came to visit this inspiring place on our “Berlin Start-Up crawl”. Monday morning, we met up in Mannheim and started our journey to Berlin.?? After settling in our hostel rooms, we split up into two groups (as for most young companies cannot fit more people in their already busy offices) and started exploring Berlin’s Start-Up industry. Half of us stopped by MEDWING which was founded in 2017 and seeks to solve the eminent problem of staff shortage in the medical sector while simultaneously achieving better access to health care for everyone.?? The Start-Up offers health applicants a personal and easy support on their journey to their dream job through their platform and personal consulting. In our talk with the founder Johannes Roggendorf we dove deep into the question what it takes to become a successful founder. ???He showed us the beginnings of his company explaining that effectiveness is way more important efficiency in the beginning as the latter always improves in the process.

After rounding up our visit with snacks and intriguing personal conversations with Roggendorf and his team we headed to our next stop — Hive .?? Their mission is to enable merchants to grow by democratizing access to great operations. Hive is the operational brain for D2C (direct to consumer) brands, taking on order fulfillment, shipping, returns, and more.?? Finishing our first day with an exceptional discussion with Leonard von Kleist talking about his history, how the founders got to know each other and what it takes to be successful. Furthermore Benita Schmidt , Janne Mandelkau , Anastasia Ilina gave us deep insights into the operative side of business.

Group two on the other hand first headed to Root Global , an innovative German Start-Up in the grocery industry that wants to make an impact on its sustainability.?? The new born company follows the approach that environmental risks are future economic risks. For that reason Root’s goal is optimize the emissions of food supplies with its operating system. Root’s team is full of expertise in software-development, climate sciences & economics and has already acquired noteworthy partners in the industry. After a quick introduction by Maurice Hensl to their business model we did a case study in which we figured out possible costumers.

The second stop led to hellomateo metting with Sebastian Frederik Jacobsen which was founded in 2021 by a team of four motivated entrepreneurs – among them three #UniMa alumnis. Mateo offers a system that bundles up several inboxes in one general mailbox in order to facilitate collecting data and improve customer communication. As our very interesting visit came to an end we met up with the first group for our first social of the trip in a bar to celebrate the first day in the capital. ??
