A REFLECTION
It is 13:15 GMT in Uganda, I recall the day I donated Dr. Jane Goodall's book on Human-Wildlife Coexistence, Titled "Buffer Crop Farming Against Wild Animal Damage in Uganda", My solo book provides a captivating narrative based on a farmer’s lived experience and offers an in-depth analysis alongside practical solutions to mitigate crop damage caused by wildlife. I handed over this book to DR. JANE GOODALL while at Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center (UWEC) in Entebbe Uganda.
Dr. Jane Goodall arrived in Uganda on the 20th of August 2023, two days after, the public joined Dr. Jane Goodall at Sheraton Kampala Hotel as she delivered a PUBLIC LECTURE CONFERENCE-themed partnerships for coexistence on a specific topic - The emerging high levels of deforestation in major chimpanzee habitats occasioned by extensive commercial development" on 22.08.2023. It was later on Wednesday, August 23rd 2023, that we again joined Dr. Jane to celebrate Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Trust (NCSWCT). Dr. Jane founded the Chimp Haven on Ngamba Island in the 1990s. It was a gala dinner well celebrated at COMMONWEALTH SPEKE RESORT IN MUNYONYO, KAMPALA UGANDA. On August 24.08.2023, the day I ever lived, Dr. Jane joined us as the Chief Guest to unveil tripartite offices for ROOTS and SHOOTS at UWEC. The offices shall host three organisations under one roof, UWEC, Wildlife Clubs of Uganda and The Jane Goodall Institute in Uganda (JGI). As the Executive Director - of Wildlife Clubs of Uganda, I wish to thank the Executive Director - of UWEC and the Executive Director of JGI for supporting this idea.
My autograph message " This book is presented to Dr. Jane Goodall DBE on the auspicious occasion of the launch of the Roots and Shoots Offices at UWEC. Thank you for inspiring hope through action in the world" signed Dr. Taddeo Rusoke.
The book unveils the remarkable story of a farmer who has battled against the destructive impact of wild animals on agricultural livelihoods. With firsthand accounts and vivid descriptions, readers gain a deep understanding of the daily struggles, losses, and frustrations endured by farmers residing near Protected Areas.
Driven by an unwavering commitment to finding sustainable solutions, I embarked on an investigative journey, delving into the complex dynamics of human-wildlife conflict and how they can be stopped through the growing of buffer crops. Through meticulous research and comprehensive analysis, I uncover the ecological, socio-economic, and cultural factors that contribute to this issue, presenting readers with a holistic view of the challenges faced by farmers living adjacent to protected areas across Uganda.
At the core of my work lies the Buffer Crop Farmers Model, a practical and innovative solution to protect crops from wild animal damage. This model, based on ecological principles and agricultural innovation, emphasizes strategically planting specific crops or vegetation around farmlands to create a buffer zone. By selecting crops that are less attractive to wildlife or implementing physical barriers, farmers can safeguard their crops while minimizing harm to wildlife populations.

“Buffer Crops Farming against Wild Animal Damage on Crops in Uganda” provides a wealth of guidance and insights on implementing the Buffer Crop Farmers Model. My book offers step-by-step instructions, best practices, and real-life case studies that showcase this approach's success and positive impact. The book serves as a valuable resource for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in the conservation fraternity, offering practical solutions that can be replicated in similar contexts worldwide.
THE BEACON OF HOPE IN THE WORLD
In July 1960, at the age of 26, Jane Goodall travelled from England to what is now Tanzania and ventured into the little-known world of wild chimpanzees (https://janegoodall.org/our-story/about-jane/).
EARLY DISCOVERIES BY DR. JANE GOODALL
When Jane Goodall entered the forest of Gombe, the world knew very little about chimpanzees, and even less about their unique genetic kinship to humans. She took an unorthodox approach in her field research, immersing herself in their habitat and their lives to experience their complex society as a neighbour rather than a distant observer and coming to understand them not only as a species but also as individuals with emotions and long-term bonds. Dr. Jane Goodall’s discovery in 1960 that chimpanzees make and use tools is considered one of the greatest achievements of twentieth-century scholarship. Her field research at Gombe transformed our understanding of chimpanzees and redefined the relationship between humans and animals in ways that continue to emanate around the world (https://janegoodall.org/our-story/about-jane/).

1 年Dr Taddeo I wish to categorically pen down to you that, I had my Ph.D in Environmental management science from Kampala international university Uganda. Also, to update you on the recognition given to environmental specialist in Nigeria. Because,of the pragmatic nature of our behaviors as conversationist in protecting nature,we are undesirable elements to the interest of others. With the eminenting impacts of such unfriendly attitudes directly,I wish to speak to Nigerians from outside Nigeria. Probably I may be listened to, do me favor.
