The day I fired myself

There comes a time in every founder’s journey when they need to consider stepping away from running their business. Some can take on the role of CEO while others need to fire themself because they are limiting their business’s growth.
This happened to me. Back in 2015, I was going through a tough time. I was settling my divorce and Finder was growing rapidly. It was no longer a small startup. I grew this baby into an adult but I was still trying to stick a bottle in its mouth.
I wasn’t growing and developing as fast as the business and I became the limiting factor in its growth. I needed to step aside. And then I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was lost.
I spoke about this key moment in my life with Brett Campbell on Ticker Ventures today. Brett recently hit the same wall and hired a CEO for his award-winning digital growth agency Claxon.
If you’ve hit this phase in your journey, congratulations! It’s an incredible achievement to make it to this step.
My first key tip for getting through this phase is to have faith in yourself and the people you have hired to execute on your plan.
