On this day in history: 28th June 1919: Treaty of Versailles. French woodcarving and interior decoration
Agrell Architectural Carving
Offices in the USA and UK. Delivering high-end, hand-carved joinery for residential, public and religious projects.
On this day in history, the 28th June 1919 the Treaty of Versaille was signed - one of the peace treaties at the end of World War I. Given the anniversary I decided to write a bit about French interior decoration and discuss (just some of) the projects we have been involved with over these last few years.
I start with a fine example of a French panel copy from Versaille showing acanthus, flowers and fruit. All our carving in hand carved with immaculate care and detail. We do not use machines.
These images show the process starting with the high end design, then the laying and marking out,
hours of hand carving in progress
and finally to a beautiful finished piece.
We have hand carved French paneled rooms, over-mantels and interior decoration for many clients including the carving for the grand ballroom at Dudley House / 100 Park Lane where we were commissioned by the team at TMJ Interiors.
Here is an original photo
and a photo of one of the many paneled doors before it was finished. We hand carved each element which was then applied or inserted into the door.
At Agrell Architectural Carving we produced our own design of a French paneled room to inspire our clientele so they are able to visualise French hand carving within their own homes. If you visit our website there are other elevations of the room also. These examples show how carving can be mixed and matched. Remember it is all about a good design and we can always work with client's to discuss their own design and budget requirements.
Other French hand carved elements include brackets,
columns
and capitals
