A Day Of Effective Learning Through Gamification- The Sales Accelerator Board Game Workshop With Volt

In 2013, I left the large corporate world as a former senior executive of a search and selection firm, and spent the next few years up-skilling myself as a corporate trainer. To ensure that every individual understands and remembers what is taught in the workshop is something that I have spent a great deal of time working on. This is why using unique tools to make learning fun and information well-retained, has led to The Sales Accelerator workshop being one of the most popular courses at The Career Establishment.

What is not to love about a good old-fashioned board game (yes you heard it correctly)- except that this has been adapted to focus purely on the entire sales cycle. As usual, this bunch did not disappoint with their bags of enthusiasm. As they bantered constantly through the day, I observed their tightness as a team as they relish every bit of opportunity to compete among themselves, which they had decided and split into three different groups. 

Do not just take my word for it- ask the group of recruitment professionals at Volt that experienced the workshop on Valentine’s Day, competing in teams and engaging in the specially-designed sales board game. Volt is the largest pure commerce industry recruitment firm in Singapore, and it was the third time I have had the pleasure of training them. 

We had “The Red Hot Chilli Peppers”, “United Nations” and “The Colonies” focusing on topics such as “gaining exclusivity with candidates and clients”, “questioning techniques to handle client obstacles” amongst other areas. The teams came across as genuinely eager to excel further at what they do as recruiters. With that kind of drive and enthusiasm, I see no reason why that would not happen with this group.

The Sales Accelerator workshop was developed with sales people in mind. To date, it has mainly been with facilitated with recruitment consultants- the versatility of this concept however, makes it suitable even to all industry of sales professionals. The game was adapted according to the needs of Volt, after consultation in order for us to understand their requirements and goal at the end of the day. We saw quick fire-rounds with teams competing to earn extra points and certificates handed out to all those that took part.

The day required a high degree of interaction and healthy competition from the Volt team, and they came out of the day having learnt new techniques to improve their knowledge of the sales process. As I have promised beforehand, there was not a Powerpoint slide in sight!
