The day design will rule

Since I got into Strategic design, there isn't a single day passing by without discovering the immensity of human-centered design applications and the magnitude of ignorance that companies have about it.

You might rightly say 'you don't know what you don't know' until someone tells about it & you deliberately ignore looking into the potential that design can unlock. I was positively stuck to know that Steelcase, the leader in human-designed office furniture, owned majority stake in the most acclaimed global design firm IDEO . the latter had introduced Design thinking to Steelcase management and thus were instrumental to transforming the company from Product-driven to an Idea-driven one. (Steelcase now provides advisory & future trends services beyond furniture). Equally IDEO top management were invited to sit on the board of directors of SC!

This tells the strategic importance design has got with the global companies C-suite

Strategic design is today the core discipline shaping global leaders competitive advantages yet little of our region leading organizations know about it or are engaged in it. The field of applications of Design is vast and can help companies fix their business problems but also shape their culture, facilitate transformations plans, innovate and create human-centered social bonding between employees, the corporation & the world around them.

in a world focused on technology, design will make sure to keep the human at the center and as S. Jobs used to say: "You have to start with the customer and make your way up to technology".

The world needs more designers to create capitalism that serves human purpose, emancipates people and customers and less savage capitalism that ends up dominating and controlling people's lives. Design is liberating and provides hope that despite ruthless technology, human values & expressions will prevail.
