A Day on the Apparel Production Floor: When a Buyer Visits
It was a regular day at a garment factory's production floor when a buyer from a leading buying house arrived for an audit. The CTeBS team was present for the workshop activity, observing the visit closely. The factory team had just completed an AQL inspection when the buyer picked up a garment from the line and turned to the production team with a question.
Buyer: “How can I be assured that this garment is a 100% match with the provided inspection details?”
The production team responded with confidence.
Production Team: “We conduct measurement inspections and record the details manually.”
Buyer: “Show me the details.”
One of the quality checkers was called to remeasure the garment in front of the buyer. Meanwhile, the buyer cross-checked the factory’s manual measurement report. But as he flipped through the pages, something caught his attention—multiple overwrites on the report.
Buyer: “Why are there so many overwrites here?”
The production team hesitated, attempting to justify the changes, but their arguments were unclear, and the buyer wasn’t convinced.
Buyer: “Show me the historical data of the same style with different PO and color.”
The production team quickly called a team member from the quality department to fetch the records. After a few moments, the response came.
Production Team: “Sir, more than half of this PO and color has already been shipped.”
While they were retrieving the documents, the quality checker finished measuring the garment. The results were troubling—one of the key measurements was out of tolerance.
Buyer: “Then how did this pass the AQL audit and get stitched out as an approved garment?”
The production team scrambled, sending the garment back for re-inspection. Meanwhile, the report for the shipped quantity arrived. The buyer scanned through it and, once again, found overwrites in the records.
Shaking his head, the buyer addressed the factory team.
Buyer: “Your reports need to be clear and reliable. Anyone buyer or vendor should be able to trust them at a glance.”
The conversation shifted. After observing the inconsistencies and inefficiencies, the buyer turned to the CTeBS team.
Buyer: “As a SaaS apparel technology provider, how can you help us solve this problem?”
The CTeBS team listened carefully, knowing they had the right solutions in place. But for now, they left the buyer with a promise.
