A Day for Action: Show Your Support and Take a Stand Against Suicide.

Dear esteemed members and supporters,

Welcome to the September edition of our monthly global newsletter, presented by the GYMHA Incorporated team. We are delighted to share with you some exciting content that we hope will inspire you. This month's edition is dedicated to World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10.

Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, we are reminded of the urgent need to address this global public health issue. According to the World Health Organisation, one person commits suicide every 40 seconds, or over 700,000 individuals a year. Every week, 115 persons commit themselves in the UK, with 75% of them being men (ONS). Suicidal thoughts affect 1 in 5 persons (NHS Digital). It is a complex issue that affects people from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, gender, or socio-economic status.

The COVID-19 pandemic has only added to the vulnerability of many individuals, exacerbating the situation further. This is why the theme for this year's event is critical.

The theme of this year's WSPD, “Creating hope through action,” represents a call to action for all of us. It reminds us that we can make a difference and that together, we can create a safer world for ourselves and for those around us.

Creating hope is a vital aspect of suicide prevention. When people feel hopeless and helpless, it can be hard to reach out for support. However, by creating a culture of hope and focusing on positive change, we can empower individuals and communities to seek that support.

Creating hope through action means taking practical steps to address the underlying causes of suicide. It means promoting mental health and well-being in our communities, providing access to quality care and support, and raising awareness and understanding about suicide prevention.

There are many things we can do to make a difference. We can start by reaching out to those in need, offering a listening ear, and showing compassion and understanding. We can also support initiatives and organizations that are working to prevent suicide, raise awareness, and provide support to those affected.

Remember, suicide is preventable, and we all have a role to play in creating a world where everyone has access to the support, care, and hope they need. So, let us come together on this World Suicide Prevention Day and commit to taking action to create a safer, more compassionate world.

Together, we can create hope through action.

We value your feedback and suggestions to continuously improve our offerings. Please feel free to share them with us at [email protected]. Our mission is to provide unwavering support, and your input helps us achieve this goal.

Thank you for being a part of our community and for your continued support. Here's to a great month ahead.

Warm regards,

GYMHA Team

Jude Ediae this is such an important issue that needs as many people being prepared to help as possible. Here in Australia we have ADS on Television given by adolescents telling us all that large numbers of them are concerned about the number of children who are considering suicide because of the conditions that are found throughout the World. This has increased even more since Covid as there are not enough qualified people to help the many.. More group approaches might have to be considered. Showing adolescents how to set up their own support network might also help. If they can realize that they are not alone these Ads might be really important. ANYTHING POSITIVE IS BETTER THAN NOTHING.

Suicide prevention is achievable by creating hope through action, we can signal to people experiencing suicidal thoughts that there is hope and that we care and want to support them. It also suggests that our actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling. Thanks so much Jude Ediae GLOBAL YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS (GYMHA) INCORPORATED
