Day 9: 1 Tip I Would Give A Front Line Provider To Get Started Working In Health Tech
Do you want to get started working in health technology?
I have been working in med tech marketing for more than 5 years now. I didn't start my career in marketing or health tech. Before joining Fresenius Kabi, I worked 'in the trenches' of health care, caring for patients directly on the unit and in clinic. I loved it, but a time came when I wanted something different.
So, here's the 1 tip I would give you if you want to pursue a similar career path:
Don't run from front line care. Figure out what you love and run towards it.
Working as a care provider is exhausting and taxing mentally, physically, emotionally. I know. But before you try to make the jump, learn as much as you can about the health tech world. If you're not sure where to start, check out my previous articles for some inspiration. There is a vast world of different roles and areas suitable for every kind of strength and interest.
Read. Watch videos. Network. Volunteer for small projects.
When I was first getting into digital health, I tried all kinds of hats like coding and project management until I found that marketing was the best fit for the two things I'm best at: thinking analytically and storytelling with words.
If you can talk about why you are genuinely interested in a given role or niche within health tech, you'll have a much more successful path towards pivoting your career into this industry.
