Day 7 of #FabulousFebruary - BREATH
Maria Marenco ??
I pressed PAUSE on Social Media, Not present here to be present in real life. But I still live by this mantra: "Storytelling is for Changemakers"
Most of the awake time, we are doing things: preparing a meal, eating, writing, training, studying, cleaning... We run out of time before we run out of things to do. I have to admit that I am a multi-tasking junky. It makes the feel like I get a lot done in little time. And not only it is false. The worst part is that I finish the day exhausted, and with the feeling of not having achieved any of my goals.
Whenever I am stressed out, I turn to 'meditation'.
Why and How to Meditate
Every person has a different understanding of the word meditation. Meditation is the technique of forgetting about our to-do list, and just focus on our breath. With that I don't mean that we need to go into a dark room and isolate ur senses. We can meditate anywhere. We notice our surroundings with all our senses: the sounds, the light, the temperature of the room... And then I focus on my breath. And believe me, I get so bored! I catch myself cheating and thinking about other things. Sometimes, by the time I noticed my thoughts are somewhere else, 10 minutes have gone by.
"And why meditate, if it is so boring?", you may ask. The truth is that meditation really helps train my attention, it helps me to be mindful.
Mindfulness is consciously being in one place, fully present, fully aware of what is in front of me. Not worried or concerned about myself. Or simply put, mindfulness is the opposite of multi-tasking or self-concern.
So breathing helps me meditate, meditation helps me to be mindful, and when I am mindful I truly am aware of what is happening.
Some people like to follow guided meditations, other people put on some music, or sound of nature. There is one particular meditation that I use very often, from zenhabits.net, you can find it here.
I am curious about your thoughts:
What methods help you calm down? How do you avoid multi-tasking? How does meditation help you in your life?
