One day a lady shared a story where she was travelling with the husband upcountry and they got lost along the way.
Lady - Honey, can we ask some people around
Husband - No, I will figure it out
30 minutes later, they were still turning and twisting around the village without any success
Lady -Honey, can we please ask
Husband - Okay, fine
They asked and within less than 10 minutes, they reached their destination.
If they had asked earlier, they would have reached way earlier.
Moral of the story is that it might pain your ego to ask, but it almost always pays when you ask the right people for help, advice and support.
As a man, I prefer to be in control of situations and yet the older I get, the more I learn that it's ok to swallow my ego and admit ignorance. It's ok to admit that I need some help.
Looking back, even in my career, rather than looking at myself as superman ready to save the world, I could have asked for helping hands.
I have noticed that those who make the biggest impact in the world are typically those who build a network of helpers around them. From staff, volunteers, affiliates, coalitions to collaborations, the world seems to move faster with extra hands.
So, next time when you feel like asking for help, do not feel less of a man or woman, instead encourage yourself to do so because it's a mark of smartness not weakness.
This does not mean you shun personal responsibility. No. Do what you are supposed to do. And that which you cannot and yet important, ask for help.
So, which aspect of your life are you going to seek out help for?
