Day 6 of 52 Days of UX: Know Thy User - Understanding the Usage Lifecycle

As users interact with your product, they move through stages called the usage lifecycle:

1. First Contact: Users become aware of your product/service, forming initial perceptions.
2. First Time Use: Users form their first real impression and consider long-term engagement.
3. Ongoing Use: Regular interaction with your product/service.
4. Death: Users stop using your product due to various factors.

Each stage presents different design challenges. Understanding these can significantly improve user experience.

Know Thy Users: Users don’t think like you. They have fresh perspectives and goals. Use research techniques like user interviews, contextual inquiries, surveys, card sorting, and usability testing to understand their needs.
