His story is a case in point of the fraudulent and menacing business models of these companies, illegally depending on the labor of workers.

A Real Story: Threats and Intimidation

A professional, who had been working in Belgium for 1.5 years under a fake umbrella company, recently received a direct job offer from a legitimate Belgian company. When he attempted to resign, the umbrella company began making threats to create fear and stress:

1. ?? Penalty Demand: They demanded €10,000 as a penalty, sending a notice on a blank paper without any official sign or signature.
2. ?? Work Restrictions: They claimed he couldn't work anywhere else until a cooling period was over.
3. ?? Defamation: They sent emails to his new employer, falsely accusing him of holding issues and behavioral problems, requesting the withdrawal of his offer.

Know Your Rights:

1. ??? No Penalty Required: Under Belgian law, you do not need to pay any penalty if a company threatens you in such an unprofessional manner.
2. ?? Seek Support: Approach the Belgian labor union for assistance. Unlike in some other countries, the labor forum in Belgium is very supportive of employees in various aspects.
3. ?? Document Everything: Keep a record of all threats and responses, noting dates. This will be useful when discussing the situation with the labor forum.
