Day 5: Every Starter Is A Winner
Devotional thought
In the summer of 1975, I was scheduled to run the mile in the regional track and field finals. There was no shortage of work on the farm that summer and I debated even entering the race because I didn’t have the coaching or time to train as other athletes did. My parents encouraged me to go knowing that the person who does not start can never win. I did run and placed third, but for me, it was a great win, for it was my best time ever. And it made Dad and Mom proud.
Every starter is a winner! The losers are those who’ve never tried. If you need to be sure that you will win, if you need to be confident of success before you make a commitment, then you can never enjoy a life of faith in God’s promises. God is most pleased when we leave the safety of the spectator stands, and become a “let’s take a chance” player in the game.
As Hebrews 11:6 says; “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him.”

4 年Thanks for sharing Dr. David Koop Reminds me of the famous quote by Theodore Roosevelt It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.
