The #100daystartup

'Section A: How To Start Your Startup'

Today we discuss the elusive Deck. How should you go about it. What should be in it and why is it important -?

First let's start with a quick pro tip. You should have 3 versions of your Deck -?

- The exhaustive one: 15-18 pages followed by an appendix.?

- A three page teaser: That you send to folks to get them interested in what you're building so that they can ask you for more information.?

- A single pager: That you can include in your introductory email for context.?

The Teaser and Single pager are just distillations of your exhaustive Deck so you just need to focus on building that and the rest come together.?

So what should be in your Deck and in what progression -?

1. Introductory Slide - With a bold line or two on your vision and what you are looking to build that will change the current status quo

2. Problem Statement : What have you identified that others haven't and why is this problem painful and sizeable.?

3. Market Size: Why is this problem worth solving, how fast is this industry growing and why will being a disrupter in this industry make a lot of money.?

4. Recent developments across the industry (investments, news, acquisitions etc) that solidify that this is a space worth being in.?

5. How the industry works - For context to the person on the other side reading who needs to understand its dynamics. Highlight where you identified the problem, opportunity and where you fit.?

6. Introduce your solution and product - How does this make everyone's life better?

6b. Images of your product and the features it offers.?

7. Your aha moment and what differentiates you from everyone else in the landscape (your USPs)?

8. How your business makes money and why its unit economics are favorable.?

9. Validation - Proof that your solution has changed the way people are doing things (add testimonials, feedback etc)

10. Metrics that back up this hypothesis and how your user growth has gone from strength to strength.?

11. Stickiness of your product through retention metrics (cohorts etc)?

12. Comparison of metric and revenue growth (if available over time)?

13. What do the next 24-36 Months look like from both a metric growth, revenue and?roadmap perspective.?

14. Team - include key members background and why this is the dream team to solve the problem.?

15. Previous investors, advisors and awards - To showcase hardhitters that believe in your vision and how you've been recognized by the industry for your contributions.?

16. Why now - include some industry metrics of recent happenings to create a sense of urgency which will entice readers of this deck to want to act.?

17. Funding ask and allocation - Given the above, How much are you looking to raise, where are you planning on spending this and how far will it get you.?

18. Thankyou slide - include the best way to contact you here.?

19. Appendix - add any slides on the industry, expected unit economics etc that further strengthen your thesis.?

A couple of other things to keep in mind through the course of this Deck -?

1. Keep the text limited and ensure it reads like a story instead of disjointed slides.?

2. Add numbers and graphs wherever possible (especially across metric and revenue related slides) to make sure it is easy for someone to read?

3. Study successful decks on slideshare etc and use Canva as a boilerplate to build the design of your presentation.?

4. Add resources at the bottom of each slide where you have added data (especially market related data) so that readers can verify it's authenticity.?

Do let me know if there is anything essential I missed that first time founders should know about.?

Project X - The #100daystartup?

Today was an awesome awesome day.?

We worked on understanding how AI based features are built on tools using ChatGPTs LLM including how to feed it data, work with it's embedding mechanism in receiving data and interpreting it.?

Did a bunch of permutations and combinations and somehow got it to work and I can't tell you how beautiful it was to see it in action.?

We actually received an accurate response to our query each time we tried it.?

Next we need to work on structuring how the output is presented and the structure of our query. So so excited!!?

So that's all for today folks. Look forward to seeing you in the new week tom
