Day #4 - How you finish your day?
Everybody asks, “How do you start your day?” My friend too asks, “Are you in the 5-am club?” It’s quite right that starting the day in the right spirit sets the day well. Our priorities of the day should be scheduled earliest in the day. Doing that every day keeps our life in order. It’s like openers setting up the tone of the game in cricket.
However, one of the intriguing truths of life is that we fail to finish anything more than we fail to start it. We fail it because finishing in right spirit needs more commitment, discipline and ability to delay gratification.
Jack Ma is a master finisher of his day. I don’t know how he starts his day, but from the reading of his life over the years, I learn that he has always been preparing himself for his next career move and he has always been too busy doing so many things after his day job. In short, he finishes his day too well. In his words, “what you do after 6 is what determines your future.” Sounds like the slough overs of “one-day”.
The question is how do you do after 6 pm? Tired? Retired, in front of the TV? Glued to the news channel? Hooked by Netflix seasons? Or Reading? Writing? Reflecting? Creating your speech? Connecting with a friend? Writing your goals?
Managing your day job and making yourself free at 6 pm is hard work but possible. Doing something meaningful after 6 pm consistently is harder, as nobody is watching over us. But isn’t leadership is born out of choice, will power and consistency? You believe it or not, good things happen to those who keep finishing well.
Watch out how you finish your day!
Thanks,
