Hey there!
Welcome to Day 36 of our #365DaysOfDataScience journey! ??
Today we're diving into Descriptive Statistics, a fundamental topic in Data Science that will lay the groundwork for your data analysis skills. It's all about understanding the key characteristics of a dataset, so you can make sense of the numbers before jumping into deeper analysis.
?? What We’ll Be Exploring Today:
- Intro to Statistics in Data Science: We'll start by learning how statistics plays a huge role in making sense of data.
- Descriptive vs. Inferential Statistics: Understand the difference between summarizing data (descriptive) and drawing conclusions (inferential).
- Central Tendency: Learn about mean, median, and mode, and why they're crucial for summarizing your data.
- Variability: Get to know how spread out your data is using range, variance, and standard deviation.
?? Learning Resources:
- Read: Chapter 1 of "Statistics for Data Scientists" by Peter Bruce. This will give you a good conceptual understanding of the basics.
- Watch: Khan Academy's tutorial on descriptive statistics. It's a super friendly and easy way to grasp the concepts.
?? Today’s Task:
- Grab a dataset from Kaggle (or use a simple CSV file you have).
- Calculate the mean, median, and standard deviation for one or more of the variables.
- If you're feeling adventurous, try comparing the mean and median to see if the data is skewed!
Take your time, have fun with the numbers, and share your insights with others on this journey. You’re doing awesome!
