Day 33 - Could You Be Wasting Time? The Story of A Young Man That Opened My Eyes (1,000 days content creation challenge)

Earlier this week, I entered a clothing shop attended by a handsome and amiable young man.

I engaged him and got to know that he had just finished high school but decided to have a gap year to explore what else could be possible.

What impressed me is that when I entered, he was on his laptop. But then, he immediately shut it down to pay attention to me. That was a good sign of someone who appreciates the value of a prospect or customer.

I also got to know that he had been debating about pursuing IT or mass communication for his bachelor’s degree. He zeroed in on IT.

Before leaving the shop, I decided to dig deeper and explore whether I can add value to his life

Me – I am curious, what were you watching?

Him – I was watching a podcast between Kevin Hart and Chris Rock.

Me – That’s ok. By the way, you may also consider adding educational content besides entertainment during this time

Him – ok

Me – For example, I know that with this kind of shop, you do not have a lot of traffic. So, out of 8 hours of work, you could be engaged for a maximum of 2 hours per day

Him – That’s true

Me – That means, you have an extra 6 hours to play with. In a week (working 5 days), that’s 30 hours. In a month, that’s about 120 hours. Even if you just used 60 hours of that time in a week to learn something, that would be super valuable for you.

Him – Oh, yes

Me – Right now, there are many things I would love to learn but unfortunately, I do not have the time. For you, you have time. Do not waste it.

For example, you can learn about digital marketing and use those skills to market this shop rather than sit and wait for customers. You have the laptop. You have data. You have a brain. You are healthy. You have a business before you to test what you are learning. And that’s a skill you can use for the rest of your life later.

He thanked me with a warm smile of revelation and gratitude. While I was stepping out, he said…

“God bless you”

Me – Thank you and God bless you too

Take aways

There could be time being wasted that I am not aware of

I just need to re-invest that time somewhere productive in a consistent manner and the results could turn out to be staggering

What were your take aways from this story? If you find this to be useful, you are welcome to share this with someone else

Interesting conversation that turns out good advice for the young man. Sometimes all we need is someone to tell us what we are not seeing. Thank you Ethan
