Day 2 Recap: Bloomberg Green Festival
The Bloomberg Green Festival 2024, running from July 10th to the 13th, continued its impactful program on the second day with a series of panels, workshops, breakout sessions and performances. The morning sessions kicked off with "The CSO Evolution," where Abby Danzig , Eric Kane , and Amy Springsteel discussed the evolving role of Chief Sustainability Officers, and "Mitigating Climate Risk in Your Operations," Sponsored By Providence . Key speakers like Donnel Baird , Kara Hammond Brooks , Jessyn Farrell , and Lauren Kiel explored the adaptation of physical infrastructure to meet sustainability goals, highlighting the potential of data and automation in these efforts.
Stacey Abrams emphasized the importance of political leadership in climate action, "We need a president who has demonstrated for the last 3.5 years an assiduous commitment to saving our planet."
Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior Sally Jewell discussed integrating climate priorities into business operations. Jewell underscored the urgency of the moment, saying, "The climate stakes of this election could not be higher. To go backwards is not acceptable for the planet." Washington State Governor Jay Inslee aptly captured the stakes of the climate conversation, remarking, "It's the difference between a chance to arrest this horrific train coming down the tracks, or letting it run over us. That's the issue in these federal elections."
Meanwhile our outdoor programming included a musical performance by the SongCatchers, a band fusing rock, soul, spoken word and jazz with the traditions of intertribal pow wow singing and drumming. We featured a comedic segment by the Climate Comedy Cohort, and also a vibrant Bollywood fusion performance by Rangeela Dance Company , celebrating cultural diversity in the climate movement.

Back on the mainstage Steven Hamburg of the Environmental Defense Fund showcased MethaneSAT’s capabilities in detecting methane emissions and emphasized the role of satellite technology in enhancing climate transparency. Val Miftakhov presented advancements in hydrogen fuel cell technology for aviation - highlighting a promising path to zero-emission flights.
Engagement extended throughout the festival with facilitated networking, and workshops. Attendees participated in themed networking sessions on topics such as greener living, climate tech, food & agriculture, and ESG reporting, led by Bloomberg Green editors and reporters.?
The evening concluded with TEDCountdown, featuring talks and performances from figures like Courtney Marie Andrews, Deb Chachra , and Johan Rockstr?m. This? program focused on current climate states, economic impacts, and solutions for heavy industry, emphasizing the urgency of action in this decisive decade.?
