Day 19 – How Can We Measure the Impact of High Teaching Intelligence (TQ) in Our Classrooms?"

Your TQ is a superpower; for your students, it can be the difference between a lecture and a life lesson

Hey Fam,

Thanks for stopping by.

Today, I will share with you how you can measure the impact of your teaching intelligence (TQ).

Teaching Intelligence, or TQ , refers to a unique set of skills that allows educators to do more than teach academic subjects. It involves connecting with students on a deeper level, inspiring their interest in learning, and supporting their growth both in and out of the classroom. An educator with high TQ knows how to make lessons engaging and complex concepts relatable to help their student's personal and professional development.?

By evaluating TQ, we can pinpoint which of our teaching practices are most beneficial and how to transform every classroom into a space where learning is enjoyed.?

These assessments are valuable for immediate educational outcomes and shaping future educational strategies, benefiting students and educators. Understand that many of the methods to measure TQ are similar to how students typically evaluate their learning experience at the end of each semester through surveys or feedback forms.?

However, measuring TQ goes beyond these traditional methods, aiming to capture our ongoing interaction and impact on our students.

Unlike "end-of-semester evaluations" that look back on the semester, assessing TQ focuses on the present teaching dynamics, offering immediate insights that can improve the educational experience in real time.

Here are some assessments to consider when working to measure your own TQ:

1- Implement a continuous student feedback loop.

Unlike traditional evaluations that happen after the learning has occurred, continuous feedback loops involve regular check-ins with students about how they're finding the learning experience.

This can be done through weekly or monthly anonymous surveys asking about the clarity of instruction, engagement level, and the effectiveness of teaching methods. This real-time feedback allows us to adjust our approach quickly, making sure that our TQ meets students' needs as the course progresses.

2- Peer observation and feedback.

Another method is peer observation, where fellow educators observe a class session and provide feedback on various TQ components, such as the ability to engage students, the use of inclusive teaching practices, and the effectiveness of facilitating discussions.?

This peer perspective can offer a different lens through which to assess teaching practices, providing constructive feedback that might not be captured through student feedback alone.

3- Monitor students' holistic growth, not just their grades.

By examining a student's portfolio of work, we can see how our teaching has impacted the student's development.?

This goes beyond test scores to include analysis of students' problem-solving methods, their creative outputs, and understanding of course concepts. This approach provides a nuanced picture of where our efforts are succeeding and where we may need to focus more attention.

4- Observe and analyze the classroom vibe.?

Evaluate the atmosphere of the classroom by observing student interactions and behaviors.?

A classroom that shows a strong sense of community, where students feel brave to express themselves and take intellectual risks, is often reflective of high TQ. Try using surveys, direct observations, and even reflective journals to gauge the inclusivity, comfort, and engagement levels within their classroom setting.

Understanding and raising our TQ is key to elevating our students' academic performance and personal lives.

Remember, TQ goes beyond the curriculum; it is anchored in inspiring lifelong learners. By assessing your TQ, you ensure your teaching strategies impact the whole student, not just the academic aspect of their learning experience. Each interaction with your students is an opportunity to educate and transform students' perspectives and ambitions.?

Your TQ is a superpower; for your students, it can be the difference between a lecture and a life lesson.?

So, take the time to ask for feedback, observe your class culture, and reflect on your craft.?

Your students deserve it.?

Thanks for your time today. I appreciate you.

Much Love,

Dr. Jae

Love this focus on TQ! It's so important, but often overlooked.
