Day 16 of 100 Days of Growth: Time and Attention

Day 16 of 100 Days of Growth: Time and Attention

After the global outage over the weekend, today was one of those hectic days when everything seemed to converge simultaneously. Multiple quotations and proposals were all due, clients were reporting issues or asking urgent questions, and ad hoc recovery war rooms were fired up across multiple fronts. The pressure was relentless. But amidst the chaos, I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of time and attention.

Despite the looming deadlines, I managed to carve out a slot for a quick 40-minute goodbye lunch for a departing colleague. It was brief but heartfelt, a moment to exchange our appreciation both ways. It reminded me how important it is to make time for people, even on the busiest days.

Later, I had a quick coaching catch-up with another colleague. I shared my reflections from the past 15 days of my journey, which sparked a productive discussion. This chat not only helped him but also allowed me to step back from my own stress and gain a fresh perspective.

Time and attention are the most luxurious commodities in our fast-paced jobs. By dedicating these to others appropriately, we build stronger relationships, nurture talent, and create a supportive work environment. Plus, taking these moments to connect with people around us can be a great way to relax and recharge, even on the most stressful days. A win-win-win situation.

How do you manage to find moments of calm and connection in your busy day? Share your tips and stories in the comments! Let’s learn from each other how to make the most of our time and attention.
