?"To be number one, you must train like you are number two" Maurice Greene
When I came across this quote last week, it struck me as one of the hidden secrets of top performers. They seem to have an insatiable appetite for more.
Whether it's billionaires like Richard Branson to sports super stars like Christiano Ronaldo, they are always pushing. They never settle. They celebrate and then accelerate again to higher levels.
They accept the accolades but also acknowledge the shortcomings they need to work on to become better.
They are human and yet we look at them as super human. I believe they are not super human. They just have a super work ethic. Super dedication. Super focus. Super drive. Super ambitions. And that's why such characters are where they are.
The question is not about being number one then but always playing like you are yet to become number one even when the world rates you like number one.
Upon personal reflection, in areas where I have regressed, I had forgotten this core principle of never arriving but always striving for that next level. That's the mindset for consistent high performance.
Imagining being behind pushes you to work harder to get ahead. And if you stay in such a mode, then, you have solid chances of staying ahead.
So, what mindset will you carry with you moving forward?

3 周Well said, Ethan, this is so beautiful; when I visited my middle-class child last weekend, I found out she is number one in her class, but I realized she even still had room for improvement. I encouraged her to go for more. Thank you for this
