Day #108 Grayleap Reading Challenge
ALMANACK OF NAVAL RAVIKANT | A GUIDE TO WEALTH AND HAPPINESS (Author, Eric Jorgenson)
(Review By: Daizy Patel )
What is the relationship between Ethics, Trust & Self-Esteem?
Naval says:
"If you have too many ... moral shortcomings, you will not respect yourself. The worst outcome in this world is not having self-esteem. If you don’t love yourself, who will?"
He says that someone is probably lying if they talk a lot about how honest they are. In his own interactions with people, he has seen people covering for something when they talk too much about their own beliefs or when they exaggerate themselves.
He clarifies that he is not talking about ethics in a cosmic or karma-related way. What he intends to communicate is that we all have a core sense of who we are - nothing can be kept a secret from oneself. You are aware of your own shortcomings because they are ingrained in your psyche.
The author concludes:
"I think you just have to be very careful about doing things you are fundamentally not going to be proud of, because they will damage you."
