1) LEADERS EAT LAST - REVIEW OF 8TH CHAPTER "WHY WE HAVE LEADERS" BY RAJESH MADAN

The 9th chapter "The courage to do the right thing" begins with a gripping story of a high drama at 30,000 ft in the sky. A cockpit is getting filled with smoke and the pilots fear the worst. They radio the ATC that they need to descend quickly to get a realistic chance of saving the 136 "souls" on board (the word souls is used only in case of dire emergency by the pilots). The problem is that they have 4 other flights flying below them. And descending instantly could trigger proximity alerts in the other flights and lead to chaos. This kind of maneuver is against the rules.?

The ATC bends all rules to give them a green signal to descend. He also informs all the pilots below about the emergency and asks them to ignore the proximity alert.

Sinek emphasizes that we "rely" on technology, whereas we "trust" people. Because people have the ability to break rules in order to do the right thing.

3) LEVERAGING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS - REVIEW OF 9TH CHAPTER BY AMARENDRA SRIVASTAVA

Researchers from Google DeepMind and Oxford University have co-authored a research paper that was released on August 29th, 2022. The authors of the paper argue that there is a good chance that highly developed forms of artificial intelligence, or AI, would exterminate humans from the planet.?

Until such an "AI Takeover" apocalypse happens, AI-enabled applications are likely to serve you as faithful servants (ignore the glitches due to poor training data) —they will strive to make your life easy and help you live longer. AI-enabled applications are likely to beat diseases like HIV and cancer, taking you closer to immortality. AI would entertain you in different ways. For example, if you do not like new movie releases, you might order a personalized movie from the comfort of your couch with the virtual actors of your choice.

The last chapter of the book presents a comprehensive landscape of AI trends and future scenarios. There is a lot currently about AI's potential to destroy humanity. The author highlights how there is pressure to make "Explainable AI" -?ethical, unbiased, and trusted. AI is becoming ubiquitous—it will be "embedded into our vehicles, household appliances, and workplace tools." Human Augmentation devices are enhancing "human capabilities both physically and cognitively."?

Perhaps all these trends indicate that we are ready to become cyborgs. Who knows, maybe the next war will be between humans and humanoid robots. If that is a possibility, then we need to catch up and use AI to enhance our capabilities before eventually fighting them.

The author of the book under review, however, is quite optimistic about the future of AI and suggests that we need not worry about AI controlling us. He invites us "to have faith in the human ability to prevent this happening."

Fingers crossed?
