Day One: The First Loving Truth, You Are Loved

Growing up and later on, when I entered the workforce, I was told that I had to hide, fake, or push my emotions down to survive and succeed. Can you relate?
For the last year and a half, as a participant of the Year of More social-emotional intelligence training at the Wright Foundation and as a student and practitioner of a master’s degree in transformational leadership and coaching through the Wright Graduate University, I have been awakened to the incredible impact emotions have in one’s life.
Furthermore, I have been exploring the idea that creating a purposeful and satisfying life, relationships, and career is not a perfecting endeavor but one of pruning away the beliefs that do not contribute to cultivating our emotional wholeness and wellbeing.
The Four Loving Truths, written by Dr. Judith Wright, have been a gift of a lifetime, a shift on living, loving, leading, and coaching from my heart. This is a gift I will share with you today and in the next three days. By exploring and practicing The Four Loving Truths, one at a time, I hope you can start to distinguish and reinforce a set of new, more positive beliefs. Let me summarize Dr. Wright’s Four Loving Truths:?
The First Loving Truth is: You are loved. The Second Loving Truth is: Love and Peace are the legacy of pain. The Third Loving Truth is: Feelings are divine and to be honored, and the Fourth Loving Truth is: Gifts are given to you to develop and use in the divine symphony of life.?
Day One: First Loving Truth, You are Loved.
I invite you to grab your beverage of choice, sit back, and take a deep breath. Join me in slowly reading the following meditation, written by Dr. Wright:
You are loved beyond your own imagining. You may not feel it, know it, or even believe it, but the truth remains that you are loved. You are a beloved child of a loving universe. It is your birthright. Nothing you can do will make love go away, nor do you need to earn it. You are the only you that has ever been, the only you that ever will be—a unique aspect of creation. You are special, precious, whole, and complete. You are loved.?
These words are like sweet honey for my lips, a fresh waterfall splashing my body, mind, and heart with tenderness and affirmation. As I repeat “I am loved” over and over, I remember my Creator. As Dr. Wright suggested, I imagine his loving, peaceful, nurturing, accepting, life-giving, caring, and compassionate face. The tenderness in his eyes gazing at me, the depths of compassion, and the full acceptance of all of who I am.?

I was created, you were created, humanity was created in the image of a loving, generous, and kind God. We were created from love, to love, and be loved. Through the First Loving Truth, my spiritual connection with God, myself, and others has been reignited.?
What is coming up for you? What tags at your heart? What words resonate most with you? Write anything that comes up. Do not worry about understanding it or finding out the why. Follow your heart, listen to the inner voice inside, and write it out.
When I consistently repeat "I am loved," I notice the interactions with my clients, husband, and son shift. These interactions are now inspired by and impregnated with gentleness and grace. They are calming, flowing, and life-giving engagements. Believing that I am loved reduces the stress I have about my client’s deliverables. It motivates me to lovingly replacing the distress with personal, vulnerable shares that bring us closer. Believing that I am loved also diminishes my frustration towards my husband for his lack of communication and restores it with more compassionate and courageous conversations.
Also, the despair I often feel due to my distant teenage son decreases as I am curious about the way I connect with him, instead of arguing and judging him. Slowly but surely, the negative beliefs can be cut off as dead branches are pruned from a bush of roses by their dedicated gardener. Love is the roses’ nurturing fertilizer in their soil for their soul.
Take some time to reread this post. Soak in these words: "You are loved." Say them out loud and reflect: How might knowing and feeling loved change how you treat yourself, how you relate to others, and how you face a change or a challenge today?
Let the First Loving Truth prepare your heart for tomorrow as we go into the Second Loving Truth: Love and Peace are the Legacy of Pain.
