Davos Highlights II

Davos Highlights II

The day started with a visit to NEOM House where the team unveiled a series of transformative initiatives, showcasing its groundbreaking vision and commitment to redefining the future:

I explored NEOM’s ambitious vision through captivating real-world models, engaging films, and a dynamic speaker program, highlighting progress and investment opportunities.

NEOM executives participated in pivotal discussions on reimagining livability, business, and conservation. Noteworthy sessions included:

“The Intelligent Entrepreneur: Building Resilient Businesses for the Future” presented by Misk.

“The Future of Investment: Saudi Arabia’s Global Model” presented by MISA.

“Empowering the Next Generation of Women in STEM” presented by Limak Holding.

“Catalyzing Impact Investment: NEOM Investment Fund’s Perspective” featuring Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, and Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing.

I then moved to Future House where they were hosting two significant sessions:

1-Global Movement for Smartphone-Free Childhood

collaboration between Human Change and Project Liberty, focused on promoting a global initiative to encourage childhood experiences free from smartphone dependency. Discussions centered on the benefits of reduced screen time for children’s development and strategies to foster environments that support this movement.

2-Understanding Digital Addiction and its Impacts on Society.

This session delved into the phenomenon of digital addiction. Experts examined how excessive use of digital devices affects mental health, social interactions, and overall societal well-being. The discussion aimed to identify actionable solutions to mitigate these impacts.

Both sessions addressed the challenges posed by digital technologies and promoting healthier digital habits in society with a brilliant line up of panelists.

I had the pleasure of catching up with my friends Dr Margareta Drzeniek and Dr Judit Kozenkow Ph.D. of Horizon Group.

Dr Margareta Drzeniek is the Managing Partner at Horizon Group, a Geneva-based think tank specializing in future economic trends. She is a globally recognized expert in economic development, competitiveness, innovation, and global risks. Margareta led the economics unit at the World Economic Forum, overseeing flagship reports such as The Global Competitiveness Report and The Global Risks Report. She has authored over 20 reports throughout her career and I was fortunate to be invited to contribite to some of their publications.

Dr Judit Kozenkow leads the projects related to economics, foresight, and sustainability brilliantly. Her expertise range from international economics, global trends analysis, emerging technologies, and sustainable development and a background ranging from teaching to holding various positions at the United Nations. I have participated in projects that Judit managed and I am always blown away by her knwoledge and comprehension to the many complex topics covered.

Horizon Group, are an amazing global insights agency specializing in delivering impactful research to inform decisions and shape agendas on fast-moving topics affecting the future. We discussed an exciting project that they have just been awarded in the Gulf and the next steps into turning it to another big success.

My next stop with Judit was to visit the Abu Dhabi prestigious pavillion that has been setup to propmote Abu Dhabi Global Health. The announcement of (ADGHW), scheduled for April 15-17, 2025, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) was impressive. This event aims to bring together healthcare leaders, policymakers, and innovators to address pressing global health challenges and shape the future of healthcare.

It is an exciting event and If you care about longevity, well being and all things health its the event to attend. The key topics that will be covered are;

? Longevity and Precision Health: Personalizing the future of medicine.

? Health System Resilience & Sustainability: Crafting future-ready frameworks.

? Digital Health & AI: Revolutionizing care through technology.

? Investment in Life Sciences: Driving global innovation forward.

These themes underscore Abu Dhabi’s dedication to advancing healthcare systems and fostering international partnerships. The announcement at Davos served to invite global stakeholders to participate in ADGHW, promoting collaborative efforts to redefine health and well-being on a global scale.

I ended the day on the train listening to Tyler Godspeed, a brilliant economist, eloquently analyzing the unfortunate economic decline of the UK and the factors contributing to it. A talk he gave at tthe Institute of Economic Affairs. A sobering observation he shared was that, while Mississippi ranks as the poorest state economically in the United States, the UK’s economic performance is even worse by comparison. Furthermore, aparently the UK on average is 40% poorer that the USA! I've added the link of the talk below. It is a must watch if you love the UK and want to understand what is going on.
