Davos it is!

Davos it is!

"Det Moderne India is a very welcome?initiative"

Having Espen B. Eide, Minister of Foreign Affairs, describing DMI this way is very humbling.

World Economic Forum @ DAVOS

Our next event will take place on January 17th at the?54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF)?2024 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

The 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum will provide a crucial space to focus on the fundamental principles driving trust, including transparency, consistency, and accountability.

This Annual Meeting will welcome over 100 governments, all major international organizations, 1000 Forum’s Partners, as well as civil society leaders, experts, youth representatives, social entrepreneurs, and news outlets.?More than 600 CEOs will be in town.?One of the most unique things about Davos is those who attend. While it is often criticised as a talking shop for the world’s privileged 1 per cent, it is also where people come to try to lobby and influence these powerful elites in order to create change on a global scale.?How can we develop a long-term systemic approach to achieve the objectives of a carbon-neutral and nature-positive world by 2050 while providing affordable, secure, and inclusive access to energy, food, and water? How do we balance these trade-offs to achieve social consensus?

Davos is an invitation-only event.?We are thrilled to be bring a Norwegian delegation to the World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos!

India as a strategic hub

In October, DMI, in collaboration with DNB, hosted a Blue Economy and India conference, featuring a notable panel that included Lasse Kvarsnes Hansen. Impressed by the remarkable plans outlined by Wilhelmsen for its operations in India, we were inspired to invite Lasse to our podcast. Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM), a leading third-party ship manager, manages a portfolio of over 450 vessels and employs 11,000 active seafarers. The company recently announced its expansion in India, introducing two new functions and increasing the intake of cadets and employees in its India office.

Here are some of the questions we asked him:

  1. Business Operations Scale and Expansion Plans: Can you provide insights into Wilhelmsen's current activities in India? What is the scale of your business operations in the country, and are there strategic plans in place for further expansion?
  2. Environmental Concerns and Industry Adaptation: Following our discussions at the Blue Economy seminar in October, it's apparent that environmental concerns have gained prominence. How has Wilhelmsen observed this shift, and in what ways does the company anticipate the ship management industry adapting to the challenges posed by global climate change?
  3. Impact on Seafarers Amidst Industry Transition: Amidst the ongoing transition, what impact does Wilhelmsen foresee on seafarers, who often serve as the unsung heroes of the global shipping industry?
  4. Expansion Strategies for Indian Seafarers: As part of your ambitious growth plan, which aims to increase the fleet size by 60% in the next five years, there's a focus on augmenting the intake of Indian seafarers. Could you elaborate on the strategies Wilhelmsen is employing to achieve this substantial expansion?
  5. Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives: Diversity is a key concern within the shipping industry. Could you outline the specific measures and initiatives Wilhelmsen Ship Management has implemented to actively recruit and support the inclusion of women on board?
  6. Future Vision for the Industry in India: Looking ahead to 2030, how does Wilhelmsen envision the evolving landscape in the regions where you operate, particularly in India? What trends or developments do you anticipate shaping the industry in the coming decade?

You can listen to the episode here.

Blue Economy and India @ DNB

India is on the brink of emerging as one of the top five shipbuilding nations in the next decade. With its vast oceanic expanse, the blue economy stands as a driving force behind modern India. We delved into whether there is room for the oceanic nation of Norway, and its blue companies, in this dynamic mix.

We are sharing glimpses from the conference below.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Throughout the year, members, and c-suite executives have gathered to share their insights and discuss matters of mutual importance to Norway and India.?Team DMI would like to thank our partners, connections, and?guests around the world, who attended our events and podcasts and made 2023 an eventful year.?
