David Whyte's 10 Self-Isolation Tips

Hello everyone, one of the folks that it’s my pleasure to work with is David Whyte, Vice-President of People & Culture at The JV Driver Group in Edmonton. David has had to self-isolate for the past two weeks after returning from a business trip. David is a husband and father, and while we were chatting a few days ago, David shared with me some of his self-isolation management tips. I asked him for permission to share them with you my very favorite LinkedIn peeps, and all of you who may have to self-isolate, of those you know who must do.

David Whyte’s top 10 Self-Isolation Tips

1 – Get some daily Vitamin D – get outside, get some fresh air and clear your head.

2 – Get some daily exercise – get your heart pumping, at the very least do some body weight exercises.

3 – Eat healthy – avoid Skip the Dishes and create some simple, healthy meals for energy and good health.

4 – Set a cadence for team meetings – as much as possible, provide your team with some level of consistency in a currently inconsistent and ever-changing situation.

5 – Remember perspective – draw upon your previous major life and work challenges and implement what you learned from those situations.

6 – Check in regularly with your people – there is a lot of anxiety within people, take the opportunity to ask them how they are doing.

7 – Challenge your team – provide your team with development opportunities, this is a great time for learning and development.

8 – Spend time with family – set up some specific time with family in order to manage their expectations of you being at home.

9 – Celebrate the small wins with your team – either through facetime or another tool, take the opportunity to recognize your people when it might feel like there are no wins.

10 – Journal and Meditate daily – there will be a ton of learning from either working remotely or managing this challenge, oh, and practice gratitude as well.
