David Poindexter’s Unforgettable Showing: The Day Jesus Stopped by!

David Poindexter’s Unforgettable Showing: The Day Jesus Stopped by!

?Six years ago today, I lost my father, David Poindexter—a Realtor, a Godly man, and the best dad I could have asked for. My journey into real estate started by accident while helping him out during a job search. I never planned on making it a career, but over time, I grew to love it—largely because of the stories and experiences that came with it.

One of my favorite stories about Dad still makes me laugh to this day.

?It was supposed to be a normal showing, but the buyer? Far from ordinary.

?Dad had received a call about one of his listings and set up a showing. When he arrived, he was met at the front door by a (woman) buyer dressed in a full suit and tie, who confidently looked him in the eye and said, "David, you know me."

?Caught off guard, Dad replied, "I'm sorry, I don’t believe we’ve met."

?She insisted, "I know you are a Christian, and you DO know me."

?Still puzzled, Dad asked, "What’s your name?"

?Her response? "I am your Father, Jesus Christ."

?Now, if you knew Big Dave, you know he didn’t miss a beat. With a sarcastic grin, he responded, "Well, Jesus, I imagined you looking a bit different!"

?Completely unfazed, she explained that she could appear in many forms. Dad, in classic fashion, just rolled with it and proceeded with the showing as if nothing unusual was happening.

?Then came the pool in the backyard. That’s when Dad, never one to pass up an opportunity for humor, turned to her and said, "Since you’re Jesus, I would love to see you walk on water?"

?But the most unexpected twist? She actually made an offer. The house briefly went under contract. And during the inspection, another gem from Dave: "Shouldn’t you already know if this house has any issues since you can perform miracles?"

?And while my Dad always made sure buyers were financially qualified, this was the first time he ever had to consider whether divine intervention counted as proof of funds.

In the end, the deal fell through—because even with all her abilities, "Jesus" didn’t qualify for the loan!

?Looking back, I realize I never asked Dad how she actually signed her name on the contract. If “Jesus” really signed it, that would be one rare autograph! I also wished he would have asked her, "do you need a wine cellar, or are you just planning to keep plenty of water on hand?"

?Dad’s humor, patience, and ability to roll with the unexpected are things I carry with me every day. Real estate, like life, is full of surprises—some big, some small, and some that leave you shaking your head and laughing years later.

?Miss you every day, Dad. Thanks for the stories, the lessons, and the laughter. You were THE BEST!
