David O. McKay Academy (www.mckayedu.org) is pleased to announce the hiring of Erin Thorn as Head Women's Basketball Coach.
"Do you trust me?" 4 simple words from a friend that introduced me to this amazing opportunity with David O. McKay Academy (DOMA).
I have been on the lookout for a coaching job, but I have been picky about it...always saying, "it will happen when it is meant to happen." Well, that time has come and as the Head Girls' Basketball Coach at DOMA, I couldn't be more excited to help build a strong athletic department.
I have been blessed in my life to have the opportunity to play basketball at every level. I participated in High School and AAU ball. Through hard work, dedication, and sacrifice, I earned a full college scholarship to BYU. Upon graduating, I was drafted by the New York Liberty of the WNBA.
This was my version of a mission, a 10 year mission...I was the only LDS player on my teams, for many of my teammates I was the only Mormon they had ever known. I was the example of what a "Mormon" was. Coaches and teammates alike respected my standards and did their best to accommodate.
As I stepped away from the game I love and the game that had afforded me so many amazing experiences, I knew there would come a time where basketball would again be a huge part of my life. This opportunity with the Academy is exactly that, my chance to get back and give back.
I want nothing more than to be a light, an example, a leader, a teacher to this generation and the ones to come. I look forward to building a winning basketball program, but more importantly, I look forward to building strong, confident, and healthy young women.
So let me turn the question to you parents, youth, and anyone interested in supporting us as we build...."Do you trust me?" If the answer is "yes" or "maybe" or even that you still have questions, please contact me at: erin.thorn@mckayedu.org. I would love to discuss my vision with you!
