It wasn't the physicality of the man, it was the weapon and the wit to use it!
The little guy simply out-smarted the big guy...
When using the story to inspire others, make sure they understand that, and of course, the blessings bestowed upon David (as well as his imperfections).
When telling the story to motivate, help them understand it is not just the "little guy slaying the Giant" in a miraculous manner...
The "underdog" only can do this through prior training...
As a Shepard, David grew up fighting lions and bears, and honing his sling-shot skills while protecting the sheep!
Prior training and knowledge had him ready to win the battle, it just wasn't a heat of the moment, “dumb luck” victory....
David was a Goliath!!!
By seizing his “one moment in time” he declared his strength, his wit, and most importantly, his blessing...
It isn’t always about size, and it is never what others think. It is living a life of focus and doing right, so when your destiny is revealed, you are able to live up to the magnitude of it.
If the standard of your culture is built upon daily achievement and doing everything right everyday (and “protecting your Sheep from the Lions and the Bears”) …
When that opportunity comes to "Slay the Giant”, your people won't have to rely on a fiery, pre-game rant about "David beating Goliath."
They will be prepared to seize that "epic opportunity," (that “one moment in time”), and they will truly be prepared...
to write their own "David and Goliath" story!
