The Untold Story

David Briskham's journey is one of resilience and personal recovery. 28 years sober, he emerged from the depths of addiction and mental health to become the owner and operator of Twin Rivers Recovery Centre, a private, licensed, independent Rehabilitation Centre that opened its doors 12 years ago. “I was initially introduced to Dubai when I was flown over to collect a client and bring him to South Africa”.

David says he remembers staring at The Burg Al Arab for over 30 minutes and was encapsulated by the design and its surrounding peace! Further visitations enabled David to learn more about local culture as well as the growing addiction and mental health problem. ?Part of David’s mission is not just about advising and steering therapists and clinics in the right direction but to also educate, increase awareness and destigmatizing drug dependency. Addiction does not discriminate, it can affect anyone, regardless of their background or status and the evidence that surrounds this is irrefutable!

A Call for Empowerment

David emphasizes that mental health is the cornerstone of our existence and that it is important to recognise that mental health starts with ourselves first, closely followed by assisting others. In today's fast-paced world, where stress plays a massive role due to work issues, family dynamics, and financial pressures often ‘pushing’ people to resort to self-medicating, often becoming dependent in a fruitless attempt to cope with day-to-day life! This dangerous path can lead to addiction incredibly quickly and promotes an infinite number of psychological and behavioural problems.
