Dates Every Entrepreneur Should Know - Open Enrollment
If you do not get health insurance through an employer, there are three important dates you need to be aware of.
November 1st: Open Enrollment begins
On November 1st, open enrollment officially begins and anyone is able to enroll in or update their health insurance coverage. Rates and plans change every year, so it's important to evaluate your options each year to make sure you are in the best position possible.
In 2023, with the Family Glitch solution, the Inflation Reduction Act, and several carriers pulling out of the market, there have been some big changes, so it's important to reevaluate.
December 15th: Deadline for coverage to start January 1st
If you want coverage to begin on January 1st, you need to make your plan selection by December 15th. A majority of people have their health insurance taken care of by this date.
January 1st: Open Enrollment officially ends
Any plan chosen after December 15th will provide coverage starting February 1st.
The only exception is that if you have a special circumstance such as losing coverage or moving to a new zip code, you may still be able to apply after December 15th and have coverage begin January 1st.
If you have any questions or want to review your coverage options - reach out to a local advisor like myself!
