DataStart Analysis of a Chemical Metering Pump

Creating the future in maintenance, reliability, and your organization.
A water treatment plant requested a reliability review of a bad actor chemical metering pump (i.e. an asset with repeat failures).
The plant's maintenance supervisor pulled up the work history report from their CMMS and sent it to Blackstart Reliability for analysis.
The first step in understanding failure is to identify failure modes and failure patterns. DataStart delivers this detail.
DataStart Results
Blackstart Reliability reviewed the Work Order texts and spreadsheets, then identified failure modes & run times.
- 9 failure modes identified
- Dominant failure pattern identified as Infant Mortality
- Several age-related Wear Out mechanisms also identified
- Identified "failure-mode-specific" recommendations (see graphic)
- Reliability recommendations were cross-referenced against the OEM's standard recommendations
- 4 manufacturer-recommended time-based PM's
2 of the 4 were shown to be justified by the failure data
2 of the 4 PM recommendations were found to be ineffective and could be eliminated or extended
1 new PM was recommended based on wear-out characteristics identified in the work history
If your site could benefit from 80% reduction in an asset's failure rate, consider reaching out to Blackstart Reliability as a partner in your reliability journey. Make "understanding failure" a priority.
