Data Scientist Learning Path with Tableau

I successfully completed this 50+ hour badge with Tableau (on paper at least).

Learning Outcomes

This badge taught me how to use Tableau's built-in Analytics features. To top this, I learned how to integrate Tableau with analytical programming languages such as Python, R and MATLAB.

This content is coupled with hands-on exercises that I would download and complete. Interactive but on my own machine.

Getting started with Tableau

This is an Introductory course on how a sample Tableau pipeline works: Connect, Build, Share.

It doesn't go deep into the technical aspects of each step, it gives a high level introduction to Tableau.

Tableau Desktop: Fundamentals, Intermediate and Advanced

This three-part course builds up the techniques needed to make different visuals. The level of detail (and sometimes difficulty) increases going through the parts. What I specifically liked about this series of classes is the holistic coverage of data visualisation and dashboarding. The structure of every unit in this series follows a similar structure: a video explaining the concept, a follow up demo video and an activity that I can download and complete.

This top-down approach to learning reminds me of the general workflow of Tableau Desktop: you start with aggregated data and then you drill down in detail. They say "practice what you preach"

Prep builder

On the official website we can Read: "This course will provide you with the tools and knowledge to clean, shape, and combine data using Tableau Prep Builder". These steps can be done with Python. So, what is the added value of Tableau Prep Builder?

To me, it is the iterative process of data cleaning that makes Prep a winner. It makes easier to get data from and to Tableau Desktop.

There are other benefits based on the need of every specific user.

In this final course, I learned how to integrate Python, R and MATLAB. This needs some adaptation of the code before feeding it to Tableau.
