1986, Mission controllers were looking at an overwhelming amount of information, and somewhere amongst it could have been a clue to predict that Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. As systems get more complicated and metrics accumulate, it often happens that people get buried in charts, diagrams and figures, missing out on the larger picture. Quill[TM] may have solution – “Narrative Science”, a term they use to define their process of using machine to create stories out of data (check the credits for one such machine generated report). Rather that burying humans in number they aim to call out only essential insights that need to be acted on, presented in human language that a non-domain expert could also comprehend.
