“Data Science: Concepts and Skills” was published.

I am happy to announce that “Data Science: Concepts and Skills” was published. It is the first data science book in Persian. I narrated the basic idea that lies behind data science during the last decade; how the explosion of data and the change in thinking about data analysis in academia and industry helped to form “data science”. I told the story with different narratives so that a reader can understand multiple voices about data science in the world. This book is not a technical one and intends to talk to the wider audience who are curious about the new profession and the new field of study.
Other sections of the book are dedicated to required skills to become a data scientist (including quantitative, technical and soft skills), what skills archetypes exist and how to organize data science teams. In addition, I scrutinized the problems in Iranian industry and universities and mentioned some examples in how new data science programs can be designed from scratch (in both undergraduate and graduate level) and how existing programs can be modified to include data science skills.
This work is based on my master’s thesis as mentioned in my previous post. I used 129 resources including academic papers (mainly in statistics), books, conference videos (such as Strata conference by O’Reilly), magazines and websites (including McKinsey Quarterly and Gartner reports), MOOCs (such as Big Data and Social Physics Course by MIT), interviews (such as interview with DJ Patil) and university websites.
I hope this book can help the companies who want to establish data science departments, learners who are preparing to become data scientists and education policy makers to plan and facilitate the process of teaching data science skills in universities.
You can find the book info here. It is available for sale from the publisher bookstore. You can also find my video resources on my YouTube playlist.

Edit: You can write a review for the book here on Goodreads.
