The data privacy in Aadhar linkage

Peter Sondergaard from Gartner commented in 2011, 'Information is the oil of the 21st century and analytics is the combustion engine'.

A simple statement, but carries a lot of meaning. Google's, Amazon's and Facebook's of the world knows everything about any individual.

All private information like location of my house, health condition, dressing style, crush on some person, bank account details and many more. I can't imagine the day, when I lose my password or someone hacks in to my google account or FB account!!

Another (sort of) wrongly implemented schemes of Indian government, recently, is linkage of Aadhar to multiple entities. Telecom operators have been asked to link phone numbers to Aadhar numbers of users. One of the best breaches of modern day happened with one of the operators called Jio, here is the link.

Now, we are staring at a bigger problem ? Yesterday, we all woke up to the news that Facebook is asking users to provide their aadhar number.

Wow! Imagine, why would facebook require my aadhar number ? Since Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook are all related and people from different geographies, people from various inclinations use facebook(FB) and FB itself shares my photos, personal information with various app providers and various entities; it increases criticality of my worries about my data privacy.

Though, various government entities are aware of this, why don't they act on such restrictions ?

Why government is not protecting it's citizens data ?

Why the techno-security community is not taking it up, as the matter of utmost importance ?

These are somethings, which will linger in my mind for sometime. This is something which each one of us should really worry about.
