Hello there and welcome to a frosty edition of the Data Platform Weekly! I hope you're staying warm wherever you are (or cool if you're in a warm place!). With #Ignite2023 over with and the announcement that Fabric has gone Generally Available, it's time to get cracking.
Over on my ServerlessSQL.com blog there are 3 latest blog posts covering:
- Delta Lake Change Data Feed: Ever wondered how you could detect what changes have been made to a Delta table and then use that in loading processes downstream? Well, I had a look at the Delta Lake CDF feature when writing notebooks in a Fabric Lakehouse. Read more here
- Explore This Data in Power BI: I honestly didn't think I'd rave about a Power BI visualisation feature, but here we are! I think the new Explore This Data feature is great for someone like me who doesn't really spend a lot of time in the reporting/visualisation worls but wants to get some answers from data. Check it out here
- DP500 Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate: It's what I've been waiting for...a certification for Fabric! Now this actually arrived a little quicker that I thought it would, the beta starts in January 2024. Read more about it here
A huge thank you for our great speakers and attendees for our AP2023 event, 9 sessions across 3 time-zones during the day. We had some great Synapse and Fabric sessions. We don't record this event so unfortunately no videos to share, however we do have the videos available from our last conference.
Check out the Data Toboggan YouTube channel here.
We'll be posting news of our next conference soon so stay tuned!
- Microsoft Ignite 2023 Book of News: Yes I'm still reading through this, lots of announcements across a variety of services. I'll probably still be reading this next week :) Read it for yourself
- Implement medallion lakehouse architecture in Microsoft Fabric: It may actually be a little light on the implementation part, but this article by Microsoft lays out ideas on how to structure your Lakehouse implementation in Fabric. Read it here. You can pair it up with the Learn materials here as well.
