Data Modeling: Data Certification

Complete Data Quality’s data modeling solution tasks the data community with certifying the classified values. The data community consists of representatives from across the organization with business and/or technical knowledge that is specific to the data being analyzed. The data modeling solution supports roles for the business owners, subject matter experts, data stewards, data custodians, data quality, and data governance to form the data community.

The certification process is very straightforward; the certifier reviews each classified value and certifies that the classification is valid. The solution supports the ability for the certifier to dispute any classified values. The rest of the data community then either approves or challenges the disputed values. The project manager implements the corrections to the classified values, thus resolving the disputed values that were approved by the data community. This process gives the data community complete control to govern the classified data.

The data community is provided with two certification capabilities; data type certification and value certification. Data type certification presents the values, summarized into data type frequencies, for certification. This allows the modeler to certify every instance of a classified value. This is undoubtably the faster certification method because value certification requires each instance of a value to be certified, as described next.

Value certification provides a completely granular view of the classified values. This allows for detailed analysis across all values classified for a single attribute value. The data community is able to validate that all of the classified values make business sense when aggregated together. This supports comprehensive analysis of every classified value by attribute.

The certification tracks the certifier and the certification date. The data community simply validates that the values presented are valid for the assigned classification. The entire certification process is a closed system that gives the data community complete autonomy to govern the classified data.
