Earlier today I came across the following press release from Gartner – Gartner Predicts 30% of Generative AI Projects Will Be Abandoned After Proof of Concept By End of 2025 . Before I read the release, I was not certain what to think. Was 30% a high number or a low number? The statement primarily focused on realizing the business value and calculating the business impact of generative AI.
As typical, my thoughts immediately turned to the data. I wanted to dive into the role data plays in whether or not a generative AI PoC ever get past the “Proof” phase. More specifically … the actions data practitioners and data leadership can take to increase the odds that generative AI will be successful and sustainable. That is the topic of this article. Don’t act surprised that data governance is right in the middle of it all.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of generative AI, many organizations find themselves stuck at the proof of concept phase, unable to scale their initiatives to full production. Achieving success in requires more than just innovative technology; it demands robust data governance practices.
