This perspective offers a compelling counterpoint to the well-known adage "The plural of anecdote is not data," especially in the context of my recent visit to India.

Data is a titan in the modern business world, offering invaluable insights for innovation and decision-making. However, the dominance of data and algorithms can sometimes eclipse the irreplaceable nuances of human experience. Generative AI, with its astounding capabilities, further amplifies this conundrum. As we marvel at these technological advancements, a critical question emerges: Are we at risk of losing the human touch? We often make the mistake of extrapolation of a few data points collected, because we’re taking that experience as evidence of something more?general, whereas in fact, the experience might be explained in a way that relies on some other general principle, or on something quite specific and subjective. Not to mention, experience has time dimension too. "Data Informed, Anecdote Inspired" is a perfect blend that one should aim for.
My Journey to India: A Testament to Human Stories
My recent visit to India was a stark reminder of the power of human connection. On one hand I am surprised with digitalization boom that occurred in last 2-3 years. This sudden (and bit forced) digital revolution is not in main stream and proudly flaunted by the beneficiaries. My conversations also revealed layers of understanding that data alone could never uncover. These interactions were rich with emotions, aspirations, and insights – elements that are often lost in the rigid framework of data analytics. The narratives shared provided invaluable insights that went beyond what traditional metrics could measure. These anecdotes painted a vivid picture of growers needs, expectations, and experiences, highlighting the limitations of relying solely on quantitative data.
